Paraguay Residency · September 13 - 24, 2027
A few years ago my friend Nick walked out of Asunción with permanent residency in one step. That route is gone.
Paraguay has rewritten the rules multiple times since 2022, and demand keeps climbing. The current path is still one of the easiest in the world. I just can't promise it will look the same next year.
I got mine because I wanted an escape plan from uncertainty and inflation back home, and a break from Midwestern winters that feel like they last eleven months. Now Asunción is my home base a few months every year. It's warm, the markets are full of fresh food, my money goes further, and Paraguay doesn't tax what I earn outside the country.
In September I'm taking a small group to file for temporary residency and spend twelve days actually living in Asunción. You'll have your own apartment, your documents reviewed before you fly, attorneys meeting you at immigration, and me nearby the whole time.
Registration closes July 2, 2027.
Residency
Timing
Rules have already shifted several times. In 2024 two people in one of our groups landed in Asunción the same day requirements tightened. Their apostilles were still in the mail, and what used to be fine suddenly wasn't. We now start document prep months ahead for exactly this reason.
Applying now gets your file moving under the rules that exist today. It does not lock in every future requirement, but it puts you ahead of the next change.
Paraguay is still one of the easiest places in the world to get residency. I just can't promise it'll look like this next year.

Residency is the reason you come.
Finding out whether you'd actually enjoy living here is what people remember.
Night one is dinner at O'Gaucho: an international buffet plus waiters circulating with grilled meat skewers. It's on me, and it sets the tone. You'll stay in your own apartment with a full kitchen in my building or the one next door, in one of the nicest neighborhoods. Shops, restaurants, and groceries are a short walk away.
Documents are reviewed before you pack. In Asunción you bring originals, meet the attorneys at immigration, and sign. The rest of the time is yours: work, explore, or do nothing. The WhatsApp group starts weeks before arrival, so you already know names when you land.
I'll point you toward the places I actually use: the double massage at AG Medicina Naturale followed by French pastries at Chaval, the sprawling Mercado 4, the hidden farmers' market under a mall, sunset walks on the Costanera, tacos at Taco Dealer, and one night at La Cabrera for the tomahawk steak.
One group outing is included and chosen by the group (horseback riding at the cavalry regiment is my vote). One evening at my place or in the building for food, conversation, and real talk about life here.
You'll also meet people who already live this: families, retirees, nomads, and business owners from the US, Canada, Europe, and beyond. Tell me what you're curious about, and I'll connect you.
Paperwork
Approval typically takes 90 to 180 days. Attorneys follow the file. When the card is ready, they can hold it for your next visit, or you can collect it. Temporary residency is generally up to two years, and permanent is a later step with its own requirements. We'll walk you through what comes next.
I've used the same attorneys since 2018. Every person we've brought to them has obtained residency. These are the people I trust with my own paperwork.

FAQ
No. Attorneys and translators handle the legal side. A few words and a translator app cover the rest.
Yes. Kids under 18 are $1,500 off, and we'll walk you through the extra documents minors need. Everything we do is family friendly.
No. Your free time is yours.
Plan on it. Appointments come early, but you need to be in the country if questions arise or an office closes unexpectedly.
I explore on my own regularly and feel comfortable doing it. Like any city, common sense applies. I'll share the local advice I use myself.
Paraguay uses a territorial system, but get proper advice for your situation, especially if you're American.

I'd rather you already have your application moving when they do.
You'll leave with the application filed, new people in your life, and a much clearer sense of whether Paraguay could be more than a backup plan.
